A real commitment
We are the footprint we leave behind
As human beings, we have a responsibility to positively influence the world around us. At Hotel Kivir, our connection with society and the city of Seville is the engine of our sustainability strategy. Together, we work to improve the lives of our community and protect the planet we all share.
Kivir in action
What do we do for responsible tourism?
Charity activities
We participate in various activities organised in the city, such as the Seville Night Race, which we ran for charity in 2022 for the ‘warrior girls’ on our team who fight every day to get ahead.
Collaborations with associations
We collaborate with associations of various kinds, both local and international, such as the Seville Food Bank, the Association Against Cancer, the Refugio del Polígono Sur, and the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, among others.
Support for the homeless
We help distribute food, drinks, and clothing to the Night Brigade for homeless people located in the centre of Seville.
Guadalquivir clean-up
We join various outings to collect litter accumulated along the banks of the Guadalquivir river alongside Ok Planet Sevilla and the Coca-Cola Foundation.
Charity Christmases
Every Christmas we organise the Royal Postman and a charity afternoon snack so that all local children can drop off their letters to the Three Kings, receive a small gift, and everyone is invited to a hot drink and some pastries. Those who wish to can leave a donation which is later used to make a large purchase for the Seville Food Bank.
Response to global emergencies
Whenever we can, we do our bit by collecting necessary products following natural disasters or specific needs, such as the earthquake in Turkey, the war in Ukraine, or the La Palma volcano…
Local and circular economy
We are committed to the local economy, hiring local or nearby suppliers, opting for quality products and, whenever possible, those of organic origin or with a guarantee of sustainability.
Zero single-use plastics
We promote a ‘zero single-use plastics’ policy which we have gradually introduced throughout the hotel, setting ourselves the goal of reaching zero.
Comprehensive recycling
We continuously recycle all waste derived from our activity and encourage our guests to do the same, sorting rubbish into the different three-compartment bins found both in their rooms and in common areas.
Energy awareness
We use various signs to inform our guests of the importance of using energy and water responsibly, for example by avoiding the continuous changing of sheets and towels, controlling the room temperature, or avoiding excessive water use.
Digitisation and recycled paper
We promote the responsible use of paper, increasingly using electronic formats in various ways, or otherwise, recycled paper for almost 98% of our needs.
Sustainable amenities
We have replaced single-dose amenities with dispensers, which help reduce product waste and the unnecessary consumption of single-use plastic.
100% eco-friendly trainers
Designed for the future
Kivir, an efficient hotel with the highest
energy rating: A
At Kivir, thanks to the latest advances in energy efficiency and sustainability, we are proud to proclaim that we are a highly efficient hotel.
Why do we have an A rating?
1. High-quality construction
Obtaining the maximum energy rating, Rating A, indicates that the building is of high construction quality, designed with minimum consumption as a premise, with very low energy demand, which translates into reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere as much as possible.
2. Exceptional thermal insulation
The best systems have been implemented during construction to provide the building with the greatest insulation, preventing energy loss and therefore requiring less energy to remain comfortable. The entire building is designed with a thermal envelope intended to maintain a comfortable interior temperature with the minimum possible use of air conditioning and heating.
3. High-efficiency systems
The installations have been calculated to operate with the highest possible performance, making them efficient. Thus, the energy consumed is used to its full potential. How the air and water in the building are heated and cooled involves a great deal of energy consumption; at Kivir, this has been resolved with a geothermal system, which uses well water at subsoil temperature to optimise heat exchange.
4. Renewable energies
High-efficiency systems using renewable energies have been installed, contributing to lower energy consumption and greater environmental sustainability.
Social action and solidarity
Sustainability Plan
Our team is fully immersed in a Sustainability Plan which, alongside our advisors in this field, helps us learn to be better in this area. That is why we like to say that we carry out sustainable actions in the broadest sense of the word.
But what do we mean by sustainability?
- Tourism is one of the most powerful economic sources in our society, which is why we are aware that it is in our hands to approach it from the most sustainable perspective possible.
- With our Sustainability Plan, we want to give special relevance to environmental, governance, and social issues within our hotel to minimise the negative impact that poorly managed tourism can have.
- Furthermore, we are committed to measuring our current carbon footprint, setting ourselves the challenge of reducing it every year.
- We firmly believe that if everyone does their bit, the world can be a much more sustainable place that is respectful of the environment that sustains and surrounds it.
Tips for a conscious stay
How to be a sustainable traveller
We want you to come and visit us, we want you to get to know our city, to enjoy it and fall in love with it, but we also want you to do so in the most sustainable way possible.
What does this mean?
- Find out about your destination. Choose accommodation and businesses based on sustainability criteria.
- Use public transport, bicycles, or walk.
- Respect the local culture.
- Be aware of your footprint on the planet.
- Consume responsibly.
- Use electronic devices instead of printing on paper.
Try local businesses. - Take care of your surroundings.
- Avoid participating in activities where animals are exploited, their natural habitats are disturbed, or the landscape is altered.
- Use free and complimentary resources only as necessary.
- Think of small sustainable gestures: reduce energy use, do not waste water, always use bins to dispose of any waste, recycle, collaborate with the hotel’s towel and bed linen reuse programme, etc.
